St Antony Gardens Penzance

Penzance was made a stannery town in 1663 . Its coinage hall was where Wetherspoon’s is :until 1816 when the new one ,down by St Antony Gardens was opened .

We moved to Swindon in 1958. They must have packed all the stuff quietly when we were out at school because we didn’t know where we were going till a couple of days before the move, One of the first things I did when we got there was to get the Dalmatian dog the film then was 101 Dalmatians so I expected cost quite a bit it’s name pedigree West drop Apple Bloom and we got her from Hollywood, We only had a little car then a Hillman Minx.

  About 250 miles  from Swindon ,where its trip week .the railway works  and Pressed Steel ,where Dad worked nights , shut for the summer holidays . 
    We'd got up in the middle of the night and stopped in Bodmin and had a few Wheatabix for breakf
  

A school report from the second year. Doing really badly in French and English, In the first year I was in the bottom set for everything that went up into the second set for mathematics mainly because I discovered geometry was interesting, in year we had to pick options for all levels and really it was up to me that he didn’t come over to the open day so I’d pick things having to do writing chose music art because you couldn’t do history and geography without we had to do English in French was okay we’ve got franchise ancestors and my mum‘s side of the family could speak French. In fact the school there are three teachers still there from when my parents were there, Those for French maths and English and the headmaster who was a doctor of divinity. He wrote several books one on the Kennett Valley and one on his specialist subject which was comparative religion. In the first year we used to have uniform inspections and I’m one occasion our dog had chewed my school cap . They cost a small fortune soI didn’t have a replacement one and it was 2 to wear anyway I got put in detention for a whole term. But seeing as I used to have to get the school bus home in the evening detention was in the in the lunch hours and I had to sit up in room seven and copy out one of Steman‘s books. It was the page on Islam and I had to spell Mohammed may God’s peace be upon him and all that sort correctly. Actually it was quite a good punishment because it kept me out the playground where I was always didn’t beat up.
